Alvarado is located in Albuquerque's North Valley.  The school was built in 1958 and is proud of its  continued reputation for excellence in education.   At each grade level, teachers are  aware of the  needs of students and work hard to differentiate their instruction to support students' learning..

Along with having a wonderful location, Alvarado is fortunate to have a bilingual dual immersion program. The native English speakers and native Spanish speakers are integrated throughout the school day receiving content instruction and literacy instruction in both languages in order to promote bilingualism and bilteracy.

Alvarado Garden The northwest corner of Los Poblanos Farm has been adopted by Alvarado Elementary School.   This is where students have an opportunity to do hands-on science by conducting investigations; and study ecosystems, biology, geology, history, art, math, and nutrition in the context of their garden.


RunFit is an afterschool Running program.  It is  a fun, intensive program which motivates and trains elementary school students to run one mile to 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) without stopping, through active participation on an after school (or before school) running team.

Students have the opportunity to take part in the Caldecott Club, a reading program that is based upon Caldecott award-winning books. All the books have been set aside in  our school library. Look for student accomplishments in the Alvarado Newsletter.
    Alvarado se encuentra localizada en Albuquerque's North Valley. La escuela fue construida en 1958 y orgullosamente continua con su excelente reputación en educación. En cada nivel escolar, los maestros son conscientes de las necesidades de cada estudiante y trabajan duro en hacer diferentes planes de estudio para mejorar el aprendizaje de cada estudiante.

No solo Alvarado tiene un excelente localización, también cuenta con un programa bilingüe. Los alumnos cuya lengua materna es el ingles y los alumnos cuya lengua materna es el español son integrados a lo largo del día escolar recibiendo instrucciones de lectura y de escrituraen ambos idiomas para promover que los alumnos sean totalmente bilingües.                                                    

Al noroeste de la granja Los Poblanos se encuentra una esquina conocida como “Alvarado Garden” que ha sido adoptada por Alvarado Elementary School. Es aquí en donde los estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de hacer  con sus propias manos proyectos de investigación en ciencia, ecosistemas, biología, geología, historia, artes, matemáticas, nutrición, y economía en estos jardines.

La escuela cuenta con un club extracurricular de corredores llamado “RunFit”. El club motiva y entrena a los estudiantes de primaria para correr desde 1 hasta 3.1 millas (5 kilómetros). Los integrantes del club tienen la oportunidad de realizar esta actividad antes o después de clase.

Los estudiantes también tienen la oportunidad de formar parte en un club de lectura llamado “Caldecott”. El programa se basa en los libros ganadores de premios Caldecott, todos los libros han sido reservados en la librería de la escuela.
